Peter Mackey has been practicing law for over 39 years and is recognized as one of the last of the old-school litigators in this region of Florida. He has extensive trial experience in commercial litigation, including mechanic’s liens, contract disputes, foreclosures, judicial business dissolutions, and probate litigation. In addition, Peter regularly represents clients in complex family law matters, personal injury, and wrongful death cases.

Born in Syracuse, New York, Peter attended Allegheny College in Pennsylvania and graduated from The State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook in 1980, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He later earned his law degree from Boston College Law School in 1985. Peter began his career at Hancock & Estabrook in Syracuse, New York, and later worked at Holland & Knight in Florida before joining his wife, Cathie, at her practice.

Peter is admitted to practice in Florida, New York, and the United States Federal Courts. He supervises all litigators at Mackey Law Group and is known for his aggressive trial approach. His record includes:

  • Federal Court patent jury verdicts, with successful appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals.

  • Multi-million dollar federal verdicts involving digital communication technologies and employment/shareholder disputes, including victories against nationally recognized law firms.

  • Numerous Florida state court bench and jury verdicts in construction, commercial, and real estate litigation.

  • Significant personal injury and medical malpractice settlements, including creative strategies to overcome statutory limitations.

  • Family law trial victories, some upheld on appeal.

Peter and Cathie reside in Holmes Beach with their four adult children. Outside the office, they enjoy boating along the Florida coast.
